Nutrition directly influences the fertility of bovine females, as well as the survival of the embryo, in addition to ensuring, postpartum, an adequate body score for the female to return to reproduction. Reproductive performance intensely influences the revenue of beef cattle production systems and must be managed rationally. The objective was to evaluate the cost-benefit and reproductive performance of Nelore zebu heifers and primiparous heifers submitted to “off-label” injectable mineral supplementation, before implementing the Fixed Time Artificial Insemination (IATF) protocol. The experiment was carried out on a rural property, in the municipality of Alto Alegre dos Parecis, state of Rondônia. Heifers and primiparous cows were grazed in paddocks with Urochloa Brizanta grass and Big Cromo Cria mineral salt supplementation. The two groups (heifers and primiparous cows) were divided into treatment subgroups (57 heifers and 75 primiparous cows received injectable mineral mixture supplementation, and 51 heifers and 88 primiparous cows did not receive injectable mineral mixture supplementation). The injectable mineral mixture used was the commercial product Fosfosal® Virbac, at a dose of 10 mL, applied intramuscularly, 30 days before the TAI program. Injectable mineral supplementation in “off-label” Nelore cattle, both primiparous and heifers, did not demonstrate a significant effect on increasing the pregnancy rate. And the economic results reaffirm that this practice does not contribute to optimizing economic efficiency and profitability of calf production in these categories.

Qualidade da carne suína: distância e tipo de transporte no pré-abate
(Universidade Brasil, 2022) Coelho, Angelo Rodney da Rocha; Melo, Gabriel Maurício Peruca de; Bertipaglia, Liandra Maria Abaker
Consumer demand in relation to food quality has been a determining factor in the purchase of food by the world's population. Constantly, the consumer has been looking for safe products and nutritional quality, linked to economic value and purchasing power. The pre-slaughter aspects, including transportation, are decisive factors for the final quality of pork. Animals submitted to stress effects from the time of departure from the farm of origin until the time of slaughter will present quality deviations in the final product. In this context, with the objective of determining the effects of the distance from the farm to the slaughterhouse and the type of vehicle transporting the animals to be slaughtered on the final quality of pork meat, a study was conducted in a slaughterhouse located in the State Inspection Service - SIE in the central region of the State of Rondônia (RO), with a daily slaughter capacity of 120 animals. For that, fifteen animals were selected from 2 sample lots of pigs with the same age, slaughter weight and lineage in two realities in relation to distance and type of transport vehicle (Lot 01/Mato Grosso, 1,008 km away from the slaughterhouse transported with specific trailer for the transport of swine with a transport time of 21 hours and, Lot 02/Rondônia, 125 km away from the slaughterhouse, transported in a cage-type cattle trailer for the transport of cattle, with a transport time of 3.5 hours). After carrying out the in loco and laboratory analyzes (hot and cold carcass weight, pH, color, water retention capacity, weight loss by cooking), it was found that there was a higher incidence of DFD meat in animals transported for a long time even using specific transport for swine. Thus, it was concluded that the distance/time of transport is the main factor during pre slaughter management in relation to the quality of pork.

Os impactos da pandemia do Covid-19 sobre gerenciamento de resíduos sólidos de saúde em âmbito hospitalar
(Universidade Brasil, 2022) Oliveira, Marli Lúcia de; Aguiar, Denise Regina da Costa
In the context of the pandemic of COVID-19, the increased generation of solid health care waste can be understood as a factor related to the incidence of coronavirus cases and its impacts on society. This investigation aimed to verify the consequences of the increase in solid health care waste as well as their practices of responding to the handling of these materials,in a hospital setting, in times of pandemic. The research was developed with a quantitative-qualitative approach, through secondary sources, through the search of articles, governmental references, dissertations and a documentary analysis regarding the generation of solid health care waste was developed at the Hospital de Clínicas of the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia located in Uberlândia/MG. Studies have shown that solid health waste generation has increased expressively in the hospital with the COVID 19 pandemic. The study suggested the improvement of a continuing education program for health professionals of the establishment, in order to strengthen the knowledge about the management of solid health waste
