Abstract

Aquaculture in Rondônia has emerged as a key component of the regional economy, primarily driven by the cultivation of native species such as tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum). In recent years, tilapia farming has gained prominence as a strategic activity, with the potential to position the state as a significant hub in Brazil's fish production sector. However, regulatory obstacles and a lack of legal certainty have hindered the full development of this productive chain. This study analyzes the evolution os tilapia farming in Rondônia, focusing on regulatory and sustainnability aspects. The research, which is exploratory, descriptive, and explanatory in nature, is based on secondary data from official sources and legais frameworks, particularly Laws No. 5,280/2022 and no. 5,412/2022. The findings indicate that strengthening tilapia farming requires overcoming challenges related to environmental licensing and implementing more cohesive public policies. The analysis highlights the need for integrated guidelines that foster the sector's competitiveness while ensuring sustainability. This work provides valuable input for developing strategies aimed at improving regulatory and production practices, contributing to the responsible growth of aquaculture in Rondônia.
