Hipotireoidismo em cão – relato de caso

Abstract

Hypothyroidism is characterized by a decrease in the production of thyroid gland hormones. These hormones, triiodothyronine and tetraiodothyronine are responsible for the metabolic activity of the animal organism. There are several physiological functions. However, when there is a change in plasma and cellular concentrations of these hormones, several clinical signs may be present. After being diagnosed, hypothyroidism can be treated with hormone replacement. The prognosis varies according to the etiologic factor of the disease, being most of the time good.
