Abstract
In light of several situations I have experienced as a Special Education teacher and Libras interpreter, the need arose to seek explanations for several questions regarding the connection between Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) and the environment, emphasizing the need to include people with hearing disabilities and deafness in the context of education as well as in environmental issues. The objective of the research was to understand the importance of including Brazilian Sign Language in Environmental Education, as a strategy for the inclusion of people with hearing disabilities and deafness in socio-environmental issues. The study was developed through a qualitative approach, with an exploratory and bibliographic study. The construction of knowledge in Libras can promote inclusion and socio-environmental transformation. To this end, a thematic dictionary adapted into sign language related to the environment was created, which translates concepts that facilitate the understanding of topics such as recycling, sustainability, climate change and natural preservation. Through a thematic dictionary accessible in Libras, deaf people will be able to participate in topics related to environmental issues and environmental practices. Thus, this proposal can provide information and help the deaf community in the fight for a sustainable world, in order to have quality of life. Furthermore, this dictionary contributes to the deaf community, respecting their linguistic particularities of access to information in Sign Language
