Item Erliquiose canina(Universidade Camilo Castelo Branco, 2016) Secco, Mariana Pereira; Almeida, Fernanda Martins de; Fêo, José Carlos Sabino de AlmeidaCanine ehrlichiosis is a serious infectious disease, and should be the focus of research and study, as it is a prevalent disease throughout the country and is easily contaminated, affecting dogs of all ages regardless of sex or breed. It is transmitted by ticks, a vector that is difficult to eradicate, during blood feeding. The manifestation is generally acute, but subacute or chronic cases also occur. The definitive diagnosis for the disease is made with immunofluorescence techniques in serology tests, although the most used is the association of blood count results with thrombocytopenia and anemia with clinical symptoms. The treatment of choice is antibiotic therapy, doxycycline every 12 hours, orally, today, for 25 to 28 days, associated with supportive therapy. The prognosis is favorable depending on the stage at which it is diagnosed and the treatment carried out.
