Item Ambiência, comportamento ejaculatório e parâmetros do sêmen de garanhões Quarto de milha(Universidade Brasil, 2023) Rissi, Letícia Sarro; Brennecke, Käthery; Orlandi, Cássia Maria BarrosoThe environment in which horses are placed, especially those undergoing reproductive management, is an important aspect to be evaluated. Since reproductive processes can be influenced by well-being issues, disruptions in physiological factors caused by stress can interfere with reproductive performance. The objective of this study was to assess the influence of the collection room ambiance on the behavior, semen volume, and concentration of Quarter Horse stallions. The stallions used had weights ranging from 416 to 505 kg and ages within active sexual maturity, varying from 6 to 24 years, selected based on fertility index. The experimental design employed was a dependent paired-sample design with four stallions. Movements during mounting and dismounting were observed, with a chronological recording of copulatory behavior using a camera attached to a mobile device (Samsung, model SM-A107 M/DS, Galaxy A 10s). Parameters such as muscle contraction, tail movement, and pawing were documented by day, month, and time, with identification of each animal. This analysis was initially conducted at normal video speed, and subsequently, for confirmation, the video speed was slowed down to work with each behavior separately. The frequency (number) of each activity involved in the process and the elapsed time (in seconds) for each activity were recorded. These data were then correlated with the ambiance, assessed by local internal and external temperature, digital device (dry and wet bulb), wind speed, dew point, relative humidity, and black globe index. The model also considered semen volume and concentration. The results did not reveal any influence of the collection room ambiance on the behavior, semen volume, and concentration of Quarter Horse stallions.Item Aspectos econômico-financeiros da brucelose bovina no estado de Rondônia(Universidade Brasil, 2024) Ambrósio, Rogério Santos; Orlandi, Cássia Maria BarrosoThe study aimed to analyze, from an economic-financial perspective, bovine brucellosis in the State of Rondônia from 2014 to 2023. Brucellosis poses significant challenges for public health and the economy at both national and state levels. Although the prevalence of bovine brucellosis in Rondônia has shown a trend of reduction over the years, challenges still remain, despite the successfully implemented vaccination and health control programs. Thus, economic-financial aspects regarding the costs of combating bovine brucellosis have been demonstrated. The comparison with the national scenario shows that Rondônia faces similar challenges to other regions of Brazil, highlighting the importance of control strategies tailored to local characteristics. To advance in the control of brucellosis, it is essential to integrate efforts in epidemiological surveillance, vaccination, and health education, with cooperation between state and federal governments and the active participation of rural producers playing a crucial role. The economic-financial benefits to society are evident when private resources are invested in actions against brucellosis, as the return is $3.00 for every $1.00 invested.Item Avaliação do sêmen fresco e criopreservado de garanhões suplementados com antioxidantes e compostos naturais(Universidade Brasil, 2023) Melo, Gizele Monsueth; Orlandi, Cássia Maria BarrosoSêmen cryopreservation before the period of natural mounting can optimize the use of biotechnology during the reproductive period. However, stallions can be improved as far as supplementation (supp) with antioxidants and natural compounds, a specialty out of the reproductive season. Thus, the diet of four Quarter Horse Stallions was supplemented during 75 days by a commercial product: folic acid, Beta Carotene, L- Carnitine, milled whole flaxseed, Vitamin C and E. Experimental period initiated with sêmen being collected for basal biological leveling (exhaustion of sperm reserves), followed by sêmen collection for criopreservation (phase 1). After this period, the supp was initiated and at its finalization, a new phase was performed by basal biological leveling (n= 6 collection x 4= 24) and sêmen collection for criopreservation (n=24) successively. Despite the fact that 96 ejaculates were obtained, only 24 pre and post supp were cryopreserved and compared after thawing. Fresh sêmen variables were analyzed immediately after collection and submitted to Box Plot representation, without significant differences. After thawing sêmen straws, previously processes in respective moments pre and post supp, were then submitted to CASA (Computerized assisted sperm analysis) and kinetics variables were determined. Other variables as: sperm plasma membrane integrity were assessed by fluorescent probes and morphology by phase contrast microscopy, but no significant differences were found. Criopreserved sêmen data was submitted to PROC MIX, from SAS; and resulted in significant differences as far as variables from kinetics by CASA: motility, velocity, movement amplitude ( superior for pre vs post supp) and linear and rectilinear ( superior at post versus pre supp).Item Avaliação dos custos da IATF e TETF na produção de bezerros PO da raça Nelore(Universidade Brasil, 2024) Polli, Marcos Gabriel Carneiro; Orlandi, Cássia Maria BarrosoReproductive efficiency is fundamental for high genetic beef cattle herds and not always quickly, capital turnover achieved. The literature is scarce about evaluation of finance information in terms of high genetic calf production. This evaluation is important, considering the high value in capital invested. The present study evaluated two reproductive biotechnologies TAI (timed artificial insemination ) and FTET (fixed timed embryo transfer), considering costs, losses and profits of activities in two retreat farm which are from the same property in Comodoro, Mato Grosso, during the breeding season of 2022 to 2023. At Retreat 1, 432 Nelore pure bred beef cattle were submitted to TAI protocols, while at Retreat 2, 375 half blood Nelore cattle were used as recipient cattle for FTET. The embryos transferred were from in vitro production laboratory, being IVF (in vitro fertilized) embryos processed for storage based on distinct methodologies: fresh, vitrified and DT (direct transferred). The TAI resulted in 311 pregnant cattle, representing 72% of pregnancy rates, R$ 228.200,00; total costs and R$ 733,76 cost for pregnancy; while FTET resulted in 243 pregnant recipient, with 65% of pregnancy rates, with R$ 287.787,00, total costs and R$ 1.183,48 cost for pregnancy. Regarding the Nelore pure bred calf production costs, the numbers and costs were respectively TAI (n= 276) and R$ 826,81; while for FTET (n= 175), the costs were R$ 1.644,50. FTET exceeded TAI in R$ 59.587,00; considering high pregnancy losses for this biotechnology until birth of calves , which represented 28% of FTET lost rate, resulting in additional 11% of losses compared to TAI (17%) lost rate. FTET have currently being implanted, nevertheless, measures and criteria needed to be adjusted, as nutrition and reproductive management; all those aspects searching for sanitary control, which would certainly minimize the findings reported unitl the present moment.Item Boletim Técnico da Produção Animal, 53 / Universidade Brasil : tecnologias disponíveis na detecção de estro em bovinos.(Universidade Brasil, 2019) Oliveira, Raphael Augusto de Lucena; Pereira, Luís Arthur Malta; Orlandi, Cássia Maria BarrosoItem Boletim Técnico da Produção Animal, 43 / Universidade Brasil : citologia uterina no diagnóstico de endometrite na égua(Universidade Brasil, 2018) Factor, Luana; Soares, Diego; Cruz, Gonçalves; Orlandi, Cássia Maria BarrosoItem Comportamento de garanhões durante a coleta de sêmen pré e pós-suplementação com compostos naturais e antioxidante(Universidade Brasil, 2022) Macedo, Joyce Augusto; Zeferino, Cynthia Pieri; Orlandi, Cássia Maria BarrosoThe stallion performance and semen processing out of the breeding season period is essential for optimizing reproductive service and management. The study described the reproductive behavior of stallions during semen collection pre and post-supplementation with natural compounds and antioxidants. Four adult Quarter Horse stallions weighing between 416 and 505 kg and active sexual maturity (6 to 24 years) were used during the routine of semen collection in a breeding center. The experiment performed in a commercial stud farm, located in the city of Araraquara, SP. The pre and post-supplementation period consisted of eight successive semen collections, with an interval of 48 hours. Between the initial and final period (75 days), the animals received 6 kg/day of commercial pelleted feed, with supplementation (45 g of the product/day) based on L-carnitine (334g/kg), beta carotene (44, 5 g/kg), folic acid (1200 mg/kg), vitamin C (22.3 g/kg) and vitamin E (27800 IU/kg), water and mineral salt ad libitum. The behavioral repertoire (interval and number) was registered by evaluating the videos recorded during the collection, considering variables since hygiene management, mounting, semen collection and completion of the procedure. The study used an “Quasi- Experimental Design” and stallion behavior pre and post supplementation was compared. The behavior repertoire data was evaluated by comparing treatment in different moments and the variable means were submitted to non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test, at the level of 5% (P<0.05) of probability. The individual responses of each stallion revealed changes in the post-supplementation period considering the behavior repertory during semen collection, which are related to reproductive performance and they could be influenced by conditioning and supplementation.Item Custo-benefício do uso de suplemento mineral injetável “off-label” em fêmeas zebuínas antes do início da estação de monta visando incrementar retorno financeiro(Universidade Brasil, 2024) Farto, Brígida Gabriela de Jesus Sales Sousa; Bertipaglia, Liandra Maria Abaker; Orlandi, Cássia Maria BarrosoNutrition directly influences the fertility of bovine females, as well as the survival of the embryo, in addition to ensuring, postpartum, an adequate body score for the female to return to reproduction. Reproductive performance intensely influences the revenue of beef cattle production systems and must be managed rationally. The objective was to evaluate the cost-benefit and reproductive performance of Nelore zebu heifers and primiparous heifers submitted to “off-label” injectable mineral supplementation, before implementing the Fixed Time Artificial Insemination (IATF) protocol. The experiment was carried out on a rural property, in the municipality of Alto Alegre dos Parecis, state of Rondônia. Heifers and primiparous cows were grazed in paddocks with Urochloa Brizanta grass and Big Cromo Cria mineral salt supplementation. The two groups (heifers and primiparous cows) were divided into treatment subgroups (57 heifers and 75 primiparous cows received injectable mineral mixture supplementation, and 51 heifers and 88 primiparous cows did not receive injectable mineral mixture supplementation). The injectable mineral mixture used was the commercial product Fosfosal® Virbac, at a dose of 10 mL, applied intramuscularly, 30 days before the TAI program. Injectable mineral supplementation in “off-label” Nelore cattle, both primiparous and heifers, did not demonstrate a significant effect on increasing the pregnancy rate. And the economic results reaffirm that this practice does not contribute to optimizing economic efficiency and profitability of calf production in these categories. Reproductive particularities between Bos indicus and Bos taurus must be taken into account when using ultrasound guided follicle trans-vaginal aspiration/ ovum pick up (OPU) in conjunction with produced in vitro embryo (PIVE). Successful OPU/PIVE depends on a variety of factors, as oocyte numbers per aspiration section; which influences the technique efficiency and characterizes the oocyte recovery rate per aspirated follicle. Thus, searching for physiological responses from cumulus oocyte complex (COCs) submitted to in vitro maturation; two experiments were performed: the first experiment evaluated the oocyte cumulus cells expansion from oocytes submitted to in vitro maturation after been obtained by OPU from ovarian follicles with different dimensions, in the presence or absence of corpus luteum (CL). Slaughter house ovaries were obtained and submitted to aspiration, classification, selection and oocyte maturation. Expansion images from cumulus cells were taken, and measured after 24 hours from start of maturation. The measures results, reflecting maturation, indicated the potential in aspirating follicles < 3mm, with better results when in absence of CL. These finding requires an exploration from OPU and its capability in terms of small follicles visualization, aspiration and oocyte recovery from sub utilized small follicles in the field. These follicles could add in OPU oocyte recovery, and possibly results in better PIVE index. In the second experiment, PIVE in Nelore (n=5) and Greyman (n=5) cattle breeds were compared. The cows were submitted to OPU every 30 days, with a total of three (n=3) OPU sections. Greyman cattle were recently introduced and adapted to North region of Brazil and the donor cattle from this breed presented a reasonable potential for PIVE. Despite of the fact that oocytes recovery rates in Greyman cows were not efficient as they were in Nelore cows, the in vitro fertilized (IVF) embryos indexes from Greyman were compatible with Nelore cow.Item Resposta endometrial após ozônio intrauterino em éguas(Universidade Brasil, 2017) Factor, Luana; Orlandi, Cássia Maria BarrosoItem Vacinação de brucelose (RB51) em bovídeos no município de Ouro Preto do Oeste-RO(Universidade Brasil) Ambrósio, Rogério Santos; Abujamra, João Otávio; Polli, Marcos Gabriel Carneiro; Melo , Gizele Monsueth; Orlandi, Cássia Maria Barroso
